Following the closure of the International Office in Kansas City, Beta Sigma Phi chapters and councils are utilizing several tools to network and share ideas that can be of importance to sisters nationwide and internationally.
Here is what the Executive Board of the Metro Atlanta Council is doing at this time:
Our Council Vice-President, Jeanee McJilton, immediately obtained updated listings of active chapters in the State of Georgia as well as listings for the Carolinas, Tennesee and Alabama. We will be utilizing these listings for outreach to other chapters in Georgia to help build an effective communication network.
A new internet tool has emerged called “Band”. Band has already connected our MAC President to a couple of chapters here in Georgia that are stand-alone. Individual “Bands” for states have been established, so that those of us in Georgia can have our own “Band”. This is a great tool for determining where our active chapters and councils are functioning, and we will be working to expand our network using this tool. You can use your cell phone to locate the BAND AP! Look for Beta Sigma Phis of Georgia.

Other MAC initiatives:
The Executive Board is planning a ZOOM conference call in July with Marcia Schweitzer (a former convention chair for the Carolinas) who has a wealth of sorority organizational experience. Also serving as a consultant is a recent transferee to GA Theta Pi (Marietta) - Pat Mitchum. Pat has served as President of Beta Sigma Phi’s Indiana State Council.
Our Council will be checking with other states to discuss their planning and share ideas.
MAC’s August “Beginning Day” Council meeting will be held “in person” on Wednesday, August 5th. In addition to our Executive Board and chapter representatives, any chapter member is invited to join us. More details will be coming soon (location and time). “Beginning Day” will be a good opportunity to discuss sorority transitioning thus far. A progress report will be given by MAC President, Nancy Lee Garrett, which will cover state networking and any progress on the formation of “Regional Councils” in Georgia. A “Regional Council” would be comprised of smaller councils (like Metro Atlanta Council) and chapters that are not affiliated with a council, but want to stay in touch with sister chapters and participate in local, regional or state activities. There might be three Regional Councils in GA: a “North Georgia Regional Council” serving the mountains and piedmont, a “Coastal Council” serving the east coast of Georgia, and a “Plains Council” serving the south and southwestern portion of the state.
